These birds of paradise remind me of humid afternoons with a reddish sunset like the summers in Mexico, with intense colors and plants with large leaves.
The background photograph was taken with an analog camera and black and white film. The inspiration for the birds of paradise is a photograph taken in Mexico and enhanced with oil pastel. This image not only combines different years and countries, but analog and digital technology.

Cintia Segovia was born and raised in Mexico City, where she worked in the entertainment industry. Learning English in the US as an adult brought a unique perspective on the language’s nuances. Ms. Segovia employs video, performance and photography in the way the mass media does, using humor and wit to delve into issues of immigration, cultural stereotypes, identity and being bilingual. As both an insider and outsider, she looks at the machinations of American culture.

Ms. Segovia has shown at: The Museum Of Latin American Art, Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Torrance Art Museum
